Sellout

Daria*, I honestly doubt you are going to be skateboarding with those stilettos...and won't your croc-skin bag weigh you down or make you tip? What about that pristine white dress that probably costs more than a month's rent? Terry Richardson's flash photography and trendy use of skateboard culture may make some swoon, but this new Celine ad makes me seriously skeptical.

[Celine SS 2011 campaign smackdown vs. Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times At Ridgemont High . I'd place my bets on Mr. Spicoli]

California beach culture has always been something that kids not from LA daydream about, but this ideal of "cool" has recently resurfaced in hipster culture as a major mainstream trend. Gaining momentum with the help of lo-fi surf rock bands and Proenza Schouler's spring 2010 collection made up of neo-boho  surf gear, tie-dye, and salty colored hair. Celine as a brand has never been "trendy" up until Phoebe Philo took over last year, but the fact that it now has an "it-bag" to its name does not make it any less elitist or fussy. Basically what I'm trying to say is that no Jeff Spicoli (Fast Times At Ridgemont High) will be choosing to blow their salary on this "investment piece." And I know that women who buy Celine will not be seen cruising down Rodeo Drive on a banana board in the wake of this advertisement.

Kool Aid Hair × 8

Honestly how many people at the same party have colored hair? From strawberry blonde, lavender, to full out rainbows and flowers, theCobraSnake's hipsters have got the manic panic spectrum covered. It's ironic how they're all trying so hard to be different, yet they arrive at the party in the same proverbial shirt. I honestly do love brightly colored dye, in streaks or faded out washes, like I blogged about it last year and am still into this "trend." It makes the world a more colorful place, especially when it's just white and brown and grey everywhere outside right now.

I hope that even after this wave of colored hair has stopped being so "in fashion" (liiike Givenchy, Giles, Proenza Schouler for some..) that people still keep with it and don't just let their roots grow. Personally, I prefer the commitment free halloween hair color spray that washes out in a few days. So what I like boring hair on myself, I've said it before, I'll say it again, but I'll always be up for touching up my little sister's blue ends!

Word is out.

I wanted to share some painting I've done in my moleskine. Been listening to Guided by Voices "Under the Bushes Under the Stars" LP and I like it a lot. Big Boring Wedding is the song that stands out for me as of now...listen to it below! The title of the album makes me think of summer and the title of the song makes me think of Say Yes to the Dress.

Good luck to everyone getting through exams!

In my dreams

Vodkalattefreshlysqueezed.blogspot.com asked: what would I wear to the Academy Awards? This question got me a little too excited. Here are a few looks I'd love to see at the oscars this year. Natalie Portman would look amazing in the Chloe or Preen dress. I'm excited to see what Tilda Swinton wears- everyone hates what she chooses but I think it's the best. Can't wait!

Pretty Nice Hair Cut

Having the guts to cut ones' hair drastically is a characteristic I greatly commend. Oh my god I don't think my mind can switch back and forth between english class and real life anymore, but I guess they're basically the same, so whatever. You don't care, I don't care, cut your hair.

I currently have an "un-haircut" kind of like Kurt..like I cut it myself- it's easier since I have super straight hair so I just usually go for a blunt cut. Sometimes I go to the bathroom and take jabs at the ends in attempts to create a nice shag effect...I'm still in the learning process. It'd be super sweet to one day go as short as above but maybe not yet.

I can imagine this eventually. Like when I don't need a teenage security blanket in the form of long hair HAH.

Or, more realistically, this, except sans bangs...tried them out in grades 7 through 9 until I realized my forehead isn't big enough to accommodate blunt bangs. We'll just have to wait and see where my next great hair cut adventure takes me next I guess. Hopefully I won't end up having to go to a salon wherein the hairdresser might use his/her magical skills to turn me into a gorilla (see Pavement- Cut Your Hair).*

Gingerbread macarons & pancakes...and a grapple?

Thought I'd reminisce on holiday treats in the midst of an abundance of math powerpoint-ing and Hamlet re-reading for school. Seeing pictures recalls a taste memory that provides momentary comfort post-holidays. I highly recommend trying out the gingerbread pancakes as soon as possible- breakfast for dinner is so righteous!

Gingerbread pancakes I made with the help of Tracy's Culinary Adventures'
recipe!

A grapple, which I had the pleasure of trying recently. What's a grapple? It's a genetically modified apple that tastes like grapes! Duh.

Gingerbread macarons we made last weekend that couldn't have been more successful. SO GOOD. Recipe from LCBO magazine.

Hap hap happy new year!

Back to school blah blah blah let's just forget about that painful reality right now. Here's a video that my little sister made for the radical CSS remix of Lykke Li's Little Bit. The song's super catchy and I can even say that I like the remix better than the original. I love it when a remix totally re-creates/improves the song..I can't stand when a rapper takes a sample of an 80s hit and raps after it about something that has nothing to do with the original song. I know that Drake did a version of this song and I was totally disgusted by it..no offense, but if it weren't for the chorus, his rendition would be nothing. CSS added great beats which make it sound super intense and the fast paced video is a great accompaniment.
