do you want to destroy my sweater?

Laura and Kate! The Mulleavy sisters! A capsule collection! New York City! Hand knit! CFDA award!

These are the words that have been on a constant rotation in the fashion world since 2005. Tired yet? Well here's more.

I know that I'm not a late, breaking news reporter, but I love the tattered look of Rodarte's knits. So, apparently, does everyone else. From  Britain's Topshop, Sweden's H&M, to Canada's Aritzia, sweaters inspired by the Mulleavys are seen all over this fall.

Again with the sweaters, they really tied the collection together with such spiderweb-like stitches. Taking inspiration from their 'obsession' with horror films, the fall 2008 collection took on a slasher-chic esthetic.

A Natural Selection

What? A sale? In November? At Aritzia? I know.
I also know what I'm doing today...

The Rodarte inspired Wilfred sweater is the best replica I've seen yet ($3000 for an original knit? Non, merci). I really love the color combo, very fall/winter transition-y. I personally don't like the liquid leggings sans butt cover up look- un petit peu unflattering- but I look past it this, keeping in mind that I would pair this with skinny jeans.

More Rodarte to come...

Defocused

Finally, a good video for a song that is defin-itely in my top threeee. Angeles by Elliott Smith is lovely and perfectly fitting with this melange from Lost In Translation. Although I usually don't like youtube homemade music videos, this one's an exception, seeing as Elliott will not be making one himself (passed in 2003). I don't know about you, but riding in a car while listening to music is really moving- no pun intended. Watching, I definitely feel this video captures that feeling, what with the spots of light and reflections on the windows. Beautiful.

[I'd like to thank my friend Cara for recommending I watch this- we had just seen Lost In Translation]

Luella Real Way

How did brit-it-girl Alexa Chung get her hands on Luella's spring 2010 floral heart cutout dress?  The answer is quite simple: she's brit-it-girl Alexa Chung. Fun to type, but even more fun to say. But what's even more saddening than the wave of jealousy that probably washed over you when you saw her ensemble, is the fact that Luella has 'ceased trading' (I looked this up mes amies).

Meaning...one of the financial supporters of the label has pulled out, so at this point, the collection might not be seen in stores this coming spring.  I know. Although I would never actually buy these items, I do think that Luella Bartley has talent and deserves what she has accomplished. The collection was super cute! Why, after this superb collection would they choose to opt out? This just shows that she's too good for them. Luella will find someone else, and they'll be jealous. I can't wait to see it.

Merci Sonia!

Is anyone else excited for the holidays yet like I am? Please say yes because it's never to early to get in the spirit! Actually no, that's a lie...right after Halloween is ok, because honestly, who wants to be that jerk who, in the middle of summer is like "I love winter!" No. Looking forward is the curse of this generation, but with so many fun & exciting things going on, it's kind of hard to live in the moment.

I'm not usually one to report on runway, but I do love to point out especially fabulous collections, including that of my beloved Sonia R.! Fifi Lapin is sure to have a hayday with this collection: the graphic plastic trench, the perfectly perched berets, and the vivid splashes of color are perfect illustration material. The energy of this show is uniquely Rykiel, what with the models breaking the barriers between walking clothes hangers to walking, dancing, and SMILING coat hangers! Although the french phrases from last season were ah-door-ahble (french accent encouraged), the drab color palette was quite uninspired for my taste. A rainbow of colors and textures with a sparkly beret on top is oh-so-sonia and what we need to look forward to spring! Oh no...
