Halloween\\Lisa Rowe
Today's Halloween costume post features the scariest non-zombie movie villain since Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrence in the Shining. Lisa Rowe, "charming sociopath," played by Angelina Jolie from Girl, Interrupted, is the perfect obscure film reference costume for those of you who, like me, still want to portray someone scary for Halloween. The climax scene of the film had me genuinely terrified, even more than the Carrie finale in fact. Watching Lisa stalk Joanna (Winona Rider) through the basement corridors of that freaky mental hospital, making these aweful echo-y yells had me figuratively peeing my pants.
To achieve the Lisa Rowe "original heroine-chic" look, this is what it's going to take: 1. ratty old thrift store t-shirt- marigold yellow is ideal. You can even make a 'US ARMY' stencil diy or something if you, like me, are super into this idea. 2. Monochrome makeup featuring Wendy Torrence-esque eye contours and sallow complexion. Don't forget to pout your lips, apply concealer, then apply some reddish colour to the inner part of your lip- PERFECTLY CHAPPED. 3. 70s swagger details like flare chords (ratty sweats work as well), sunglasses, shaggy fur jacket, whatever. 4. Finishing touches: medical bracelets, tangled hair, and some needle marks and bruises that make the ideal junkie arms. Voila. You'll have everyone saying "That's a scary mask bro."

Halloween\\Carrie White
Who out there has an overwhelming urge to press stop while watching Carrie when she's on the stage, smiling, loving life with prom king Tommy Ross by her side? We all know what's going to happen, that happened over 20 years ago, even longer ago when the story was 1st concieved in Stephen King's twisted mind, (also a mind that thinks Carrie was a better movie than the Shining..delusional.), BUT we all keep wanting to believe that it won't happen. It's like in the Virgin Suicides: both in reading the book and watching the movie, you always want to believe things will end differently..exactly the thought process of that group of boys in the story.
Anyhow. Despite being utterly disappointed every time watching this movie, I still can't bring myself to actually press stop on the remote, forcing myself to watch in horror as Carrie White, prom queen, turns into satan reincarnated. Those eyyyyes. God. But the scariest part of Carrie is the overwhelming sense of frustration I feel as I watch something I know will happen, happen, and there's absolutely nothing I can do. For those of you about to watch this, (it's a classic piece of pop-culture, dooo it) Carrie gets slimed, hate to break it to you.

Halloween\\Wendy Torrence
Shelley Duvall as Wendy Torrence from the Shining: you can go for her fashionable, put together 70s look before her husband goes crazy and tries to murder her (if you're the fashion-costume type) or when she's running around flailing a knife/baseball bat. Key components to either side of Wendy are: turtleneck sweater, plaid layering, and a shortish/longish black wig. Post "all work and no play" Mrs. Torrence needs a housecoat, toy knife (emphasis on TOY), and major undereye circles (empasis on MAJOR).

Cool Beans Halloween
At a loss for a costume, even after my ingenious Powerpuff idea? Look no further than everyone's favorite semi-professional stuntman, Rod Kimball (as played by Andy Samberg) from Hot Rod. The first time I saw this movie I laughed 'till I cried. Nooot exactly the same reaction with everyone, but, with all due respect, they just don't know what they're talking about. Andy Samberg subtly crafted this character to have style, great taste in music, and above all, some kick-butt stunts. Take that as ironically as you will, but after I saw Hot Rod, I have been lusting over the black Vans sneakers pictured below.
To take this look to the next level, persuade a friend to be a "brother Kevin" sidekick. Just sayin'.
Rod has a distinctive style that is easily recognizable. Classic high top Vans, stick-on mustachio, and some ratty gray sweats are the foundation to this ensemble. Add on some of these expertly selected add-ons, such as a Europe soundtrack to your life or a "soul of a bottle-nosed dolphin" pendant, and you've got a pretty convincing disguise. Now, your only challenge is explaining to every single person you meet who you are dressed up as.
Happy Halloween!

Happy (Belated) Halloween
Happy Belated Halloween! How was your Halloween? Did you go trick-or-treating? Give out candy? Scare small children? I actually went out this year, is 14 too old? Hope not. You'll never guess what I went as. It's so freak-tastically brilliant, you'll be all "whoah, why didn't I think of that?!". Anywho, hope y'allz had fun! In honor of this awesome holiday being over, I've posted a new vid! This week it's Echo and the Bunnymen with "Killing Moon". You've probably never heard of this band if you were born in the last 15 years (y'know like, i dunno, the 90's *hinthint*), but that just makes it all the more cool. This video's pretty sweet (a bit long, but certainly not a waste of time), I don't really understand the video, it just has a creepy mood that goes along with the melancholy song. Recognize the song? It's from Donnie Darko: aka the bestest halloween movie in like, the history of the world) along with many many more 80's (not 90's *hinthint*)hits. :D
PS- If you havn't guessed what I was for Halloween, I was 90's, more specifically, 90's grunge. I'll post pics later on. To tell you the truth, nobody knew what I was, they were just like "Why didn't you dress up?" Great huh?
Enjoy, and happy candy-gorging!
