Gone Too Soon

It's quite misleading when there's sunshine streaming in the window and clear blue skies in view from bed but then when you get up you realize that there is still a significant amount of icky dirty snow covering the grass. Nonetheless I arose 100% ready for Spring...but not necessarily for Spring 2011. Looking at past ElleGirl (rip) issues I was reminiscing on how awesome the Spring 2006 season was. I feel more fulfilled in seeking sartorial queus from past seasons as opposed to constantly thinking about the next trends or seasons out of reach. I also find that looking at past seasons makes me think of the ideas instead of the clothes; meaning the styling of certain pieces together, the color combinations, or cultural references the designer had in mind.

Luella (rip) Spring 2006 on the other hand is EXTREMELY relevant. Despite being panned by critics for being "too young"* (at least for the high price points), this collection recieves top scores from a 17-year-old and is totally right for right now. For the record I'm not saying that I hate all new trends. That's not it at all! I just think that a combination of the past, present, and future is what it takes to not be a trend slave** and remain original with your soul intact.

SEQUINS:   Chunky paillettes look awesome with layering. Remember t-shirts over long sleeves? This is how it's done.

BROGUES: Worn without socks, these shoes go well with all three looks..although I'm really into the all white look to the right (hello spring 2011 trend!)

SUSPENDERS: Never would I have thought that suspenders could look kinda cool..again, this is how you do it RIIIGHT! Also diggin the hotpants with the cardi- all about the juxtaposition!

Ghost World..again

You know how the beginning of the summer is so packed with friends, events, hope, inspiration...then it slowly fades to this dull blob of goo that is your brain not knowing what day of the week it is. It's actually pretty righteous. Boppin' around, doing whatever I want...honestly, I think it's just extreme relaxation. That totally doesn't mean that I've lost inspiration: I've been doing a lot of illustrating lately so I wanted to share sum stuff witch'all, like my little ScarJo and Thora Burch cartoon..accompanied by the Aimee Mann song "Ghost World" which is also pretty righteous.

[Aimee Mann actually based this song on the graphic novel- listen to the lyrics]

So, I'm bailing this town-or
Tearing it down-or
Probably more like
Hanging around,
Hanging around

Enid Coleslaw glasses

See the world through Enid's glasses. Or at least some look alike D&G Glasses.

I feel like a loser linking Ghost World to a pair of overpriced designer eyewear, but the shape is undeniably similar.

The shape is more angular than the classic Wayfarer, but is still universally flattering.

Are you listening Urban Outfitters?

Luella Real Way

How did brit-it-girl Alexa Chung get her hands on Luella's spring 2010 floral heart cutout dress?  The answer is quite simple: she's brit-it-girl Alexa Chung. Fun to type, but even more fun to say. But what's even more saddening than the wave of jealousy that probably washed over you when you saw her ensemble, is the fact that Luella has 'ceased trading' (I looked this up mes amies).

Meaning...one of the financial supporters of the label has pulled out, so at this point, the collection might not be seen in stores this coming spring.  I know. Although I would never actually buy these items, I do think that Luella Bartley has talent and deserves what she has accomplished. The collection was super cute! Why, after this superb collection would they choose to opt out? This just shows that she's too good for them. Luella will find someone else, and they'll be jealous. I can't wait to see it.
