quitters

Thanks to Moodle for the Gold Panda video rec. Fall makes me feel nostalgic..like the time of day when it's almost dark out (dusk). Let's get out and do something.

HOTTEST SUMMER EVER

It's been a trip, but it's time for September. Killing off my summer with a new fall playlist! Art Class by Superchunk is a front runner to being my theme song of this year. Other songs included on my personal soundtrack of my life list are...It 'Aint Gonna Save Me by Jay Reatard, No Hope Kids by Wavves, aaaand of course Sticks and Stones by Jamie T. It's been one of the hottest summers ever, both figuratively and literally, but lately I just want to wear a sweater, finally drink some tea again, learn new stuff, and stop being so generally lazy.

Young and...yeah

2 days and a weekend left of high school. Time to fit in as much reckless behaviour as possible.* Albert and Julian being drunk at the NME awards in 2002, Jamie T. runnin with believers, FM Belfast's exuberant video about running down the streets in our underwear, and teenage anarchists on Venice Beach. I highly recommend watching all of these videos (maybe not at the same time) before making any life decisions. I always ask myself "what would Jamie T. do?" whenever I'm in a pickle and it's proven to be an surprisingly prosperous philosophy.

I'm currently making my "I do then I don't" mix tape (tentative title) in honour of high school ending. One minute you just want to stop doing homework and be treated like less of a child, then you think of the responsibilities  that are going to be thrust upon you in becoming an adult and you wish it would all just hold out for a bit. I'll probably post the playlist when I'm done the cassette...digitizing a tape is kind of a contradiction, I know, but thinking logically is for later in life.

*Don't worry mom and dad, that Tequila Sunrise cautionary newsletter scared the bejeezus out of me.

If I were a boy...

...this is how I'd dress for prom.

[70s Mick Jagger wearing the nicest blue and white striped shirt | boys with impeccable taste in shirt/tie combos and mussed hair via I love fake magazine in 2, 3, & 6 | the Strokes in 4 & 5 are well dressed but not in clothes they're not afraid to get dirty or wet (hello jumping in the pool). Good thinking boys.]

I thought Jamie T.'s If I Were a Boy cover would be quite appropriate at this point.

It Ain't Gonna Save Me

This song has been on constant repeat in my mind today. Walking to school, watching presentations, eating my applesauce, more presentations, yep, always in my head. I heard about Jay Reatard when I read Deerhunter's darkly fascinating Halcyon Digest cd pamphlet that revealed he was the inspiration for one of their songs.  "Where Do You Go When You Sleep" is about Jay's death from cocaine poisoning while sleeping in January 2010. I'm actually surprised I hadn't heard about him before, seeing as he's the Garage Rock King. He has this sweet faux-british accent like that of Garage Rock Pope Rob Pollard of Guided By Voices. I'm thinking if I want any success in the Garage Rock industry I'll need to start seriously considering said vocal affectation.

True Brit Jamie T.'s video for "Sticks and Stones" reminds me a lot of this one; featuring clowns, smoke, rebellion, and an uptempo 'runnin with believaaahs' beat.
