Theo Wenner photographer

I'm into Theo Wenner's photographic work lately. It's candid and grainy taken with the simplest lighting. He's apparently Liv Tyler's new bf. Who cares. I do care, however, that he's photographed the xx (bottom photo).

dark magic

Even more vague inspiration: I get a sort of goth pilgrim vibe from all this. Thass just me.

Ben Lee, Kathleen Hanna- 'i wish i was him'

[D, G, A Chords]

Well, it may sound stupid when I say it out loud
Like I'm just jealous of his silver cloud
He's crazy as hell, he drinks diet Coke
He gets his NMEs sent by air not boat

I wish I was him
He gets the girls at his feet
With all his cool friends
He gets his records for free
I wish I was him
He has no enemies
I wish I was him

Well, he's got six different flannel shirts
Airwalks not thongs
He even understands the words to Pavement songs [yes!]
He's got his little fan club and his guitar toys
He loves Smudge and the Beastie Boys

Originally performed by Ben Lee (ahh he's so small and Australian in the video!) I Wish I Was Him covered by Bikini Kill's Kathleen Hanna is almost equally cute. Luckily for Ben and Kathleen, although you can't necessarily be 'him,'  you can dress like him. Here's some boy clothing inspiration to make up for the exclusivity of the hairstyle post! I composed a listography SWAG checklist last night on the train home and included one point as "girls who wear slouchy guys' clothes." Not sure whether I want to share the entire list quite yet, but I'm thinking it over. On the other hand, I'm 100% certain on the fact that skinny ties are ultimate.

hipster boys saying no

Sometimes you should take no for an answer. I would include the song Say Yes by Elliott Smith, but the train Wifi won't gimme youtube, so you're SOL I guess. No but really, look it up guyyz! The ironic juxtaposition of my facetious drawing + the earnest plea of Elliott's quavering voice asking you to "say yes" will provide you with enough mixed messages, there's no need to ever fall in love!

Hair 'DOs

Here are some hair ideas to spice up your life. Drowning in self-doubt? Any one of these styles might make you see a 0.5% improvement. I'm sorry for secluding my male readers and those of you without long hair, but if it's any consolation, it's a beautiful October day! Okayy..aaand, here's an awesome Jamie T. song that you should listen to while walking down the street so that you can feel super confident and cool. I hope this covers all my bases.

nü emo

I hold the belief that the way that you dress is in direct correlation with what you listen to (solid thesis no?). Music is my biggest inspiration in every aspect of life- it affects any art that I create, things I do, see, wear, people I connect with... Music has so many facets of inspiration that affect me both emotionally and intellectually, guiding me along my path of choosing who to be. Lately I've been listening to Sunny Day Real Estate and have become a believer of black-on-black clothing. Coincidence? Nope.

Emo used to be cool in a 90s underground shoegaze way, but its reputation was trashed by a bunch of those 'scene' types listening to My Chemical Romance. I mean, the term originally meant musicians with emotional, confessional lyrics- let's reinvent emo to mean what it meant in the first place- check out my mix (both new and old!) then give yourself a choppy haircut in your throes of teen angst.

Nü Emo [emo revival] MIX:

  • Seven- Sunny Day Real Estate

  • Honorable Mention- Fall Out Boy
  • Kale- Nerves Junior
  • Creep- Radiohead
  • Fireman- Jawbreaker
  • Shook Down- Yuck
  • You're With Stupid Now- Aimee Mann
