Video of the Week- Prada

Last month I watched Prada's fall 2008 fashion show on style.com. If you haven't seen it, you should definitely check it out, but be prepared for something completely different than last season. The ruffled leather shoes, the black lace & the slicked back hair made the collection seem very somber & melancholy. A comment made about the ruffled shoes was that they were "eerie" which I agree with. Why? I think it's because since they're neutral colors, they look like ruffle-y skin or something.
Another comment made was that the Fall collection was better than the Spring collection which I strongly disagree with. First of all, they are both incredibly different from each other. Second, because spring Prada was just so free & creative. The patterns & colors (water color) were so pretty & the bags & shoes were to die for. I think that I liked the spring collection so much because it kind of reflected my style a bit. The set for the spring show was so fun, it was like the models were in a fantasy forest. Kind of like the computer animated promo for the collection, entitled "Trembled Blossoms". Even though I've been lusting over prada spring 2008 for a while, it was only recently I watched the clip. I think it's really cool, the way that the clothes in the video are just formed by nature for this "Eve" inspired girl. The music (Cocorosie) is soft & soothing & goes perfectly with the video.

The Kooks' facebook announcement today was that they have a new video for their new song "Always Where I Need To Be" which I just finished watching. I'm serious all the Kook's songs are so catchy, no lies. You listen to them once and it gets stuck in your head so you keep coming back for more. This new song is so amazing, it has pretty much every quality I look for in a song. If I were to write a song or be in a band (still workin' on it) that's exactly what I would sound like.
The video is partially filmed in New York City, more specifically in Central Park. They filmed it at the fountain and the archway bridge thingy where I visited while I was there. NYC is such a beautiful city, I guess it kind of fits...ideal song, ideal setting. As you may or may not have gathered from my post or rather 'rant' I love this song and video, so watch it- or you're missing out big time.

Video Of The Week

Okay, so I've had alot of spare time on my hands, alot of which was spent on youtube. I was originally looking for the high school musical parody (MadTv style) when I stumbled across the "Pizza Hut Rippin' & Dippin'" parody. Honestly, this video's really funny, and it's actually not too far off from the original. I also like it because it makes people realize how disgusting 'cheese baked into the crust' really is. There was also another pizza joint pardoy called "Donimo's Pizza" which is also really hilarious but they wouldn't allow me to copy the html code on youtube, so check it out on your own. Think of this video as a celebration of term 2! :D

New York City Christmas: Day 2

The next morning was bright, sunny and warmish. My mom decided to let us sleep in so she went the Amish market a few blocks from out hotel to get some yogurt, coffee, bread & jam etc. Once we all had coffee in our veins, we headed off towards the subway; which reminded me of this part in "Teen Angst? Nahh..." by Ned Vizzini when he jumped the turnstiles and got caught by the police. We decided to go the legit way and buy us some metro passes to use during the next few days.

I've been on the metro many times before like in Montreal and Toronto, but only when I visit. Going on the subway is so fun, plus you can get from Manhattan to Soho in like 5 min. when it could've taken us, like, an hour or more. We then got off on Canal Street and were immediately harassed to spend our money.

After canal, we headed through chinatown and into SoHo and Greenwich village. Surprisingly, we didn't do that much shopping, we only went into H&M, Girlprops and Coach, but didn't buy anything. At that point we were all starving so we decided to try and find a nice restaurant where we could sit and eat a sandwich. We finally decided on an authentic looking Italian cafe. We all got a panini(except of course for my picky little sister who got pasta) and this "chocolate mousse" for desert (it was basically like eating fudge from a bowl) which was all really delicious. After that, we strolled over to the arch in (the name has slipped my mind at the moment) "____" square near NYU and where Harry left Sally in the movie "When Harry met Sally". It was amazing that people had made this thing out of this huge slab of stone.

We then started heading back to times square through Greenwich village so that it wouldn't be completely dark by the time we got back. We stopped by a few vintage stores and a drugstore to get some awesome neon orange and yellow nail polish. One thing that made me sad is that we never got the chance to go to urban outfitters, because they don't have them here in Canada. Our goal while walking back was to stop by Macy's, just to say we had. Since it was Christmas Eve, I don't think it could've been any more crowded, it was INsane. When we finally managed to get in, we just pushed past all the people to get to the escalators which we just kept going up and up and up...Did you know that there are like 9 floors in Macy's? It's so cool, and the even cooler part is that after the 6th floor, the escalators are wooden? I bet they're from the original store. We went all the way to the top and then looked around at all the Christmas trees. What was funny is that they were all decorated at the bottom because the people were too lazy to decorate all the way to the top.
